Norwich City confirm David McNally has resigned as chief executive

Norwich City announce that chief executive David McNally has resigned, just one day after he claimed that he was "fully committed" to the club.

Norwich City have confirmed that David McNally has left his post as chief executive at Carrow Road.

Yesterday, McNally backtracked on earlier comments made on Twitter that he was to leave the club by insisting that he was "fully committed" to the Canaries.

However, 24 hours later, Norwich have confirmed that the chief executive's resignation has been accepted by the board.

A statement from the club via their official website read: "The board of directors has unanimously agreed to accept his resignation and would like to place on record their sincere gratitude for David's game-changing contribution to the football club since he joined in the summer of 2009.

"David played a leading role as the club erased crippling debts and rose from the lower reaches of League One to the Barclays Premier League. Everyone at Carrow Road wishes him all the very best for the future."

Norwich will be relegated from the Premier League if Sunderland defeat Everton on Wednesday night as they are four points from safety following Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Manchester United.
