Steve McClaren: 'I want to build team at Queens Park Rangers'

New boss Steve McClaren suggests that he is motivated by the challenge of building a young team at Queens Park Rangers.

New boss Steve McClaren has suggested that he wants to be given the time to 'build a team' at Queens Park Rangers.

McClaren's last two roles - at Newcastle United and Derby County respectively - have lasted a combined total of 60 matches, and the former England boss has only been handed a two-year deal at Loftus Road.

However, McClaren has hinted that he hopes to develop a squad at the Championship outfit having previously acknowledged that 'money is tight' at the club.

At a press conference, the 57-year-old told reporters: "I was here five years ago and it was a good season, a good three months for me working with Harry [Redknapp], but the dressing room needed sorting out.

"The last two years have been very good getting the house in order. On the field, I'm excited by the squad. That's the attraction for me.

"That's what I've missed. The coaching, the building of a team. This squad I believe is very good. It's young, energetic, enthusiastic, has got attitude and can play football. For me, it's the perfect fit. I can't wait to get started."

QPR ended the most recent campaign in 16th place in the standings.
