Queens Park Rangers boss Neil Warnock admits that he had doubts over whether Kieron Dyer can return to football following his latest injury.

Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock has revealed that he wasn't sure whether Kieron Dyer would continue to play following his latest injury.

Dyer's only competitive appearance for Rangers came on the opening day of the season, but the former England midfielder was stretchered off after five minutes with a foot injury.

"I thought that he might consider his future, but having spoken to him he will try to show me in pre-season that he warrants a contract," Warnock said.

Despite Dyer's career being blighted by injuries, the manager praised the 32-year-old's attitude.

"He's not money-motivated. It's not as if we have to pay him a fortune. The lad wants to play football, which is like a breath of fresh air," he added.

Dyer underwent surgery on the injured foot, which was aggravated last week during a reserve team game, on Monday.
