The FA will vote on a proposal to introduce a minimum five-match ban for racial abuse, according to reports.

The FA has proposed the introduction of a minimum five-match ban for racial abuse, according to reports.

Members of English football's governing body are due to vote on the proposal during their annual general meeting on Thursday after a number of high-profile cases in the last few years.

The proposal was put forward after UEFA had suggested introducing a 10-game minimum ban, but FA chairman David Bernstein confirmed that they will not be following UEFA's proposal.

"We don't have to follow UEFA. Ours is a very detailed and thought-out proposal. It is not likely to be exactly in line with UEFA's," said Bernstein.

"Ours will have a minimum, but it will have a clear acceleration from that minimum. We may well yet go beyond the 10 [ultimately]."

Luis Suarez and John Terry both received eight-match and four-match bans respectively for racial abuse in English football recently.
