Iago Aspas snatches Celta Vigo late victory

Celta Vigo move three points clear of the La Liga relegation zone after Iago Aspas earns them a late win over Real Zaragoza.

An 83rd-minute strike from Iago Aspas has earned Celta Vigo a narrow victory over Real Zaragoza at Estadio de La Romareda tonight.

There were few clear goalscoring opportunities in an evenly-contested first half as the hosts managed just one shot compared to Celta's two.

A more lively second period started with a double chance for Zaragoza as firstly Victor Rodriguez and then former Tottenham Hotspur striker Helder Postiga were denied by Javi Varas.

Aspas went close at the other end, but fired over the crossbar from inside the area, and when the Spaniard found the target with a later attempt, Zaragoza keeper Roberto foiled him with a fine stop.

It proved to be third time lucky for the visiting forward as he pounced on a loose ball eight-yards out before finding the net.

Carlos Aranda came close to a Zaragoza equaliser minutes later but Celta hung on to claim the points which see them rise a place to 15th in the La Liga table.
