Steven Naismith: 'Poland friendly not important'

Steven Naismith believes that Scotland's friendly against Poland will not have too great a bearing on the team's Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

Scotland forward Steven Naismith has claimed that the team's friendly against Poland will not have too big a bearing on their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

The Scots, who make the trip to Warsaw this evening, have been drawn against the Poles in the same qualifying group for the tournament.

While admitting that he is eager to win the match, Naismith believes that it will not prove to be hugely important when the sides again competitively on October 14.

"The squads could be totally different, so I don't think it will play a big part," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport. "You want to come away from any game with a win, it doesn't matter that Poland are in our group.

"Over the last year we have had a project that has gained momentum and we are much further forward than I'm sure the manager thought we would be.

"So, this would be another good victory for us. Although it's a quick trip, the manager has ideas he wants to get across and that's what we'll be working on."

Scotland are unbeaten in their last four fixtures.
