Wayne Rooney delighted with "special" goals

England skipper Wayne Rooney reveals his delight with his two "special" strikes to guide his side to a 3-1 victory over Scotland at Celtic Park.

England captain Wayne Rooney has admitted that it was a "special" night for him to net two goals to fire his side to a 3-1 victory over Scotland at Celtic Park.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain put the Three Lions ahead in the first half, while Rooney notched England's second after the break to put Roy Hodgson's men in control of the game.

Andrew Robertson scored a late goal to give Scotland hope, but the Manchester United forward secured the win for the Three Lions when he converted Adam Lallana'a pass from close range.

He told Sky Sports News: "It's a great victory for us tonight. We spoke about the atmosphere before the game and it was terrific. We had to show our character tonight. Scotland started quickly but we showed our ability with the ball and our mental strength.

"After we scored the first goal I thought we controlled the game. When Scotland got their goal back it could have been a bit edgy, but we responded fantastically. It was a great victory and a great performance.

"That game is great for the fans and fantastic to play in - it's not my decision but it'd be great for us to play more games like this. Tonight it was very special for me, to score two goals for England in Scotland at Celtic Park."

Rooney's two strikes took him to 46 goals for England to bring him within three of Sir Bobby Charlton's all-time record.
