An Italian footballer who went on hunger strike following a three-year ban for match fixing ends his protest after four days.

An Italian footballer who went on hunger strike following a three-year ban for match fixing has ended his protest after four days.

Former Siena defender Emanuele Pesoli chained himself to the front of the Italian Football Federation's headquarters in Rome after he was sentenced for his part in the latest scandal to hit Italian football.

However, the 31-year-old has now been granted his wish to meet his accusers and discuss his sentence.

Italian football chief Antonello Valentini had previously been unsuccessful in his attempts to talk Pesoli out of the hunger strike.
