Southampton's Mauricio Pochettino: "We deserved to win"

Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino believes that his side "deserved to win" their Premier League match at St Mary's Stadium against Sunderland.

Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino believes that his side deserved more the point they took from their Premier League clash with Sunderland.

The Saints scored an 88th-minute equaliser when Jose Fonte headed Jamie Ward-Prowse's free kick past Keiren Westwood cancelling out Emanuele Giaccherini's third-minute strike.

Pochettino told BBC Sport: "We were asleep in the first three minutes [for Emanuele Giaccherini's goal] - it is not acceptable and I take responsibility for it.

"If you look at the chances we created, we deserved to win the match but games are not won by chances made but goals scored.

"I am a bit disappointed because our goal was to get three points. When we review it we will see we deserved to win it."

Southampton have taken four points from their opening two Premier League fixtures this season.
