Maya Yoshida pens new Southampton deal

Southampton defender Maya Yoshida extends his stay at St Mary's until 2018.

Southampton defender Maya Yoshida has put pen to paper on a new contract at the club to extend his stay at St Mary's until 2018.

The 26-year-old has been a regular part of the first-team squad at Southampton since his arrival in 2012 and his show of commitment will provide another boost to Ronald Koeman's side.

During his time on the South Coast, Yoshida has made 46 starts in the Premier League, with a further nine appearances being made in other competitions.

After helping Southampton to a 2-0 win over Arsenal on New Year's Day, Yoshida will now travel to Australia to represent Japan in the AFC Asian Cup.
