Jermain Defoe vows to fight for Tottenham Hotspur place

Jermain Defoe says that he will fight for his place at Tottenham Hotspur despite not being guaranteed first-team football.

Tottenham Hotspur forward Jermain Defoe has insisted that he will fight for his place at the club.

The England international scored two first half goals in tonight's 3-0 Europa League victory over Tromso IL but is not guaranteed a starting position by his manager Andre Villas-Boas.

"I think the manager knows. It's a case of getting out there and working hard for the team. If you can score it's nice but I just want to work hard for the team. The new lads are brilliant and it was a good win," he told ITV Sport.

"This is a top club with top players and when you get an opportunity you have to take it."

Tottenham visit Cardiff in the Premier League on Sunday.
