Former Tottenham Hotspur player and manager Tim Sherwood reckons that the club tick all the boxes required to mount a serious Premier League title challenge next season.

Tim Sherwood has backed former club Tottenham Hotspur to challenge for the Premier League title next season after assembling their 'best ever squad'.

The Lilywhites, who finished as runners-up in 2016-17, are currently down in fifth place and 20 points adrift of runaway leaders Manchester City.

Ex-Spurs player and manager Sherwood is confident that the North Londoners have all the key ingredients required to make a good go of it next season, though, particularly with boss Mauricio Pochettino at the helm.

"This is the best squad I've ever seen at Tottenham," he told talkSPORT. "They look so good at the moment, I think they've got the depth, the strength and the quality to really push for the title next season.

"The club have given the manager the opportunity to build and he's done it brilliantly. It's onwards and upwards for Spurs...but we always revert back to the same thing: they need to start picking up silverware.

"They're obviously making progress and it's fantastic, I'm really pleased for the club and it's a brilliant period for them, it would be very nice if they could get their hands on something."

Next up for Tottenham is a home match against arch-rivals Arsenal at Wembley Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.
