Tottenham Hotspur legend Ricky Villa has echoed Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino's criticism of the fee that Real Madrid are willing to pay for Gareth Bale.
Madrid are said to be on the verge of concluding a world record deal worth around £86m for the Welshman.
Barca coach Martino recently declared his displeasure at the size of the fee claiming that it showed a "lack of respect" to the world outside of football.
Villa agrees with Martino's comments and said that the fee reflects badly on society as a whole.
"I do agree with some comments I heard and I think it's aggressive for a club to pay so much money for a footballer," Villa told Goal.com.
"To pay so many millions of dollars for a football player when there are a lot of workers that won't even earn $100,000 (£63,000) in their lifetimes, I think shows that there is something wrong
"The money spent on Bale is money that society is missing somewhere else."
However, UEFA president Michel Platini stated that he had no issues with the fee.
