John O'Shea happy to commit to Sunderland

Sunderland defender John O'Shea hints that he would be open to extending his Black Cats contract beyond next summer, despite reported interest from Tottenham.

John O'Shea has indicated that he would happy to extend his contract at Sunderland despite reports linking him with a surprise move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The 33-year-old has only 12 months left on his current Black Cats deal, and some sources are suggesting that Spurs are looking to buy him for a cut-price £3m.

However, the wily defender has branded the supposed interest from White Hart Lane as "total speculation" and stressed that he is enjoying life at the Stadium of Light, and is even open to staying beyond next summer.

"It was news to myself," O'Shea told the Irish press on Monday. "That's the way it goes at this time of the year, there is lots of stuff rumoured about players coming and going.

"It's just one of those things. It's just total speculation. I'm in the game long enough to know that and I'm more than happy with Sunderland."

"I definitely want to play on beyond next season. I played around 50 games last season and I'm fit and well, and long may that continue. I'm already looking forward to next season after what was a roller-coaster end to last year. But as for my future, that will be down to Sunderland."

O'Shea has made 113 appearances for Sunderland since joining from Manchester Untied in 2011.
