Stoke City defender Bruno Martins Indi disputes penalty awarded to Arsenal

Bruno Martins Indi is adamant that his challenge on Mesut Ozil in Arsenal's 3-0 win over Stoke City should not have been punished with a penalty.

Bruno Martins Indi has stressed that his challenge on Mesut Ozil in Arsenal's 3-0 win over Stoke City should not have been punished with a penalty.

The Potters held their own against the Gunners and both sides were goalless going into the last 15 minutes of Sunday's Premier League game in North London.

However, referee Craig Pawson pointed to the spot after Ozil went to ground under pressure from Martins Indi, who appeared to get his left foot to the ball before catching the German from behind.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made no mistake from 12 yards for the opener, and two more Gunners goals were to follow as Stoke's resistance gave way completely.

"It was not a challenge, I touched the ball and it was not a penalty," Martins Indi told BBC Sport. "The referee had a different view or something and gave it.

"I could not believe it, it cost us because we played very well. It killed the moment. I've seen it back, I think the referee's angle was not good enough.

"He said that I stretched my leg and I made a foul. He needs to watch it again. Ozil is of course going to say it's a penalty - if i was in his position I would say the same. It was no penalty and the cameras don't lie."

Stoke remain second from bottom in the Premier League table, three points from safety, after their eighth game without a win.
