Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers have reportedly been the first Premier League clubs to show an interest in signing Tim Cahill on a short-term loan deal.
Cahill is available for a two-month spell from the New York Red Bulls in January and has attracted the attention of the relegation-threatened pair, according to the Daily Mail.
Rangers boss Harry Redknapp is believed to be an admirer of Cahill's all-action style and wants to add options in the final third.
Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill is desperate to take the burden off Steven Fletcher in attack and is thought to be weighing up a move for the former Everton man.
The 33-year-old Australian has admitted that he is keen on a return to Goodison Park in January, but his wish looks unlikely to be granted by Toffees boss David Moyes.
