Bafetimbi Gomis aiming to secure Euro 2016 berth with France

Bafetimbi Gomis still harbours hopes of representing France on home soil at Euro 2016 next summer, having missed out on the 2014 World Cup squad.

Swansea City striker Bafetimbi Gomis has revealed that he has not given up hope of landing a place in France's Euro 2016 squad.

The 30-year-old has made a fine start to the campaign after bagging four goals in the Swans' opening five games.

That run includes strikes against both Chelsea and Manchester United, which has made Gomis one of the hottest properties in European football right now.

A previous falling-out cost the former Lyon man a place at the 2014 World Cup with his national side, but he is now targeting a place among the Les Bleus ranks on home soil next summer.

"I have always believed in myself. I still do," he told L'Equipe TV. "The 2014 World Cup is among my regrets, especially as I left the France team over a fallout with my old club.

"But it is important to have principles. I have them. And I didn't want to abandon them, even if it meant giving up the France team. I have become pickable again.

"When you are 30-years-old, you see things differently. But my priority is to play well for my club. That doesn't mean to say that I no longer believe but I know what I would have to do to go back."

Twelve-times capped Gomis joined Swansea from Lyon last summer on a free contract, where he has since gone on to score 14 goals.
