Michael Laudrup says that he wants midfielder Joe Allen to stay at Swansea City following reported interest from Liverpool.

Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup has attempted to calm speculation over midfielder Joe Allen by insisting that he is wanted at the Liberty Stadium.

The 22-year-old is believed to be a target for Liverpool with Reds boss Brendan Rodgers thought to be keen to reunite with his former Swans player.

"I want Joe to stay here because he is very important for the team," the Daily Star quotes Laudrup as saying. "As far as I know, we have heard nothing from Liverpool. If it is more than just rumours then I'm sure the chairman will talk to me about it.

"Of course we want to keep our most important players and I would not welcome any interest in my best players. But it is a part of the game."

Reports have claimed that Allen is happy with the Welsh club and is not instigating a move away from the Premier League outfit.
