Wellington Phoenix secure first A-League victory

Wellington Phoenix end their 10-game wait for an A-League victory this season by narrowly seeing off the challenge of Sydney FC this morning.

Wellington Phoenix have registered their first victory of the A-League campaign after securing a hard-fought 1-0 win over Sydney FC at the Regional Stadium this morning.

Ricki Herbert's men, who sat second from bottom in the standings prior to kick off, took a 33rd-minute lead through Stein Huysegems.

The 31-year-old casually rounded goalkeeper Vedran Janjetovic before firing into an empty net from a tight angle to provide his team with the advantage.

The goal proved the difference between the sides as the Yellow Fever successfully ended their 10-game wait for a victory in Australia's top flight.
