West Ham United fans are banned from attending the club's opening away game in the 2023-24 Europa League after being charged by UEFA for throwing objects and invading the pitch at the Europa Conference League final.

West Ham United supporters will be banned from attending the club's opening away match in the 2023-24 Europa League after being charged by UEFA for throwing objects and invading the pitch at the Europa Conference League final.

David Moyes's side won their first European trophy for 58 years when they beat Fiorentina 2-1 in the Europa Conference League final in Prague earlier this month.

A number of Hammers fans encroached on the pitch in celebration after the full-time whistle blew, while missiles were thrown onto the pitch by some supporters during the first half, with Fiorentina captain Cristiano Biraghi left bleeding after being struck on the head.

The final was briefly paused by referee Carlos Del Cerro Grande whilst Biraghi was strapped with a head bandage, and a stadium announcement requested supporters to "respect the players and officials" and stop throwing objects onto the field of play.

West Ham have been banned from having away fans at two European games, although one of those games is suspended for two years, while the club have also been fined €50,000 for the throwing of objects as well as a further €8,000 for invading the pitch.

A UEFA statement read: "The control and disciplinary body decided to ban West Ham United FC from selling tickets to away supporters for its next two UEFA competition matches.

"The second of which being suspended for a probationary period of two years as from the date of this decision, for throwing of objects."

Meanwhile, Fiorentina fans have also been handed a one-game away ban and the Italian club have been fined €30,000 following crowd incidents in their semi-final clash with Basel last month.

A UEFA statement, via The Mirror, read: "The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body has taken the decision to fine ACF Fiorentina €30,000 and to ban ACF Fiorentina from selling tickets to its away-supporters for its next (1) UEFA competition match, for lighting of fireworks, throwing of objects and crowd disturbances."

The Serie A club are also required to pay an additional €4,000 fine for the team's improper conduct during the match.

While Fiorentina narrowly missed out on securing European football for the 2023-24 season – finishing eighth in Serie A – West Ham will feature in Pot 1 for the Europa League group-stage draw following their Conference League triumph.

The Europa League group-stage draw is scheduled to take place on September 1.
