Sam Allardyce: 'Fans told me not to sign Diouf'

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce reveals that he listened to fans before deciding not to sign El-Hadji Diouf.

West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce has revealed that he listened to fans before he decided not to sign striker El-Hadji Diouf.

The Hammers boss had suggested that the club could sign the former Blackburn Rovers striker after he was made a free agent over the summer.

However, Allardyce has confirmed that no deal would be taking place.

"It is not my job to scroll through everything that has been said, but I considered the response from the fans," he said.

"I wanted to know what it was like and I took that into consideration and made the decision.

"By the time he would be fit enough, all my injuries would be back and available to play. Taking those factors into account, I have not offered El Hadji the short-term deal we first talked about."

The East London side host Leicester City in the Championship today (Saturday).
