Everton have had a £13m bid for Wigan Athletic midfielder James McCarthy accepted just minutes before the transfer deadline.
Everton saw an initial bid for McCarthy turned down yesterday before Wigan chairman Dave Whelan rebuffed an improved bid earlier today due to disagreements over how the money would be paid.
However, the Toffees have had a bid believed to be in the region of £13m accepted by Wigan, and will now discuss personal terms with the player.
The two clubs are still believed to be in disagreement over the proposed staggered nature of the payment, but Everton manager Roberto Martinez is hopeful that the deal will be done in time.
McCarthy, who played under Martinez for Wigan, made 127 appearances for the Latics, scoring eight goals.
