Dieter Hecking: 'Marcelo should have seen red'

Wolfsburg boss Dieter Hecking claims that Real Madrid defender Marcelo should have been sent off in Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final for his play-acting.

Wolfsburg boss Dieter Hecking has claimed that Real Madrid defender Marcelo 'deserved to be sent off' during Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final.

Wolfsburg shocked the Spanish giants with a 2-0 victory in the first leg, leaving Real Madrid with work to do ahead of the return match at the Bernabeu next week.

In the second period, Wolfsburg midfielder Maximilian Arnold, who scored the game's second goal, picked up a yellow card following an altercation with Marcelo, who dropped to the ground.

Replays showed that the Brazilian left-back had not been touched, however, and Hecking has claimed that Marcelo's play-acting should have seen him pick up a red card.

"It was because of the situation with Arnold. I didn't think the yellow card he got was deserved. You don't have to act as he has. Marcelo in that situation deserved a red card," AS quotes Hecking as telling reporters.

Wolfsburg will return to Bundesliga action this weekend with a home game against Mainz 05, before travelling to Madrid for the second leg next Tuesday.
