Sebastian Vettel equals Nigel Mansell's record of 14 pole positions in a single Formula 1 championship by taking pole in Abu Dhabi.

Sebastian Vettel has equalled the pole record of Britain's Nigel Mansell by clinching his 14th top spot of the 2011 season in Abu Dhabi.

The German, who has already been crowned world champion for this year, edged out the McLaren duo of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button in the final part of Q3.

Vettel, 24, can now eclipse the record set by Mansell in 1992 when driving for Williams by taking pole in Brazil in the final race of the season in two weeks.

Michael Schumacher's record of 13 race wins in a season can also be equalled by the Red Bull driver if he wins the final two races of the season.
