Fernando Alonso critical of Ferrari performance in Canada

Fernando Alonso has demanded improvement from Ferrari after a disappointing display at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Fernando Alonso has bemoaned Ferrari's lack of performance as they failed to trouble the podium places at the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday.

As Daniel Ricciardo completed a last-gasp victory to clinch Red Bull's first win of the season, Alonso ended the race in sixth while teammate Kimi Raikkonen finished in 10th, scoring a solitary point.

However, but for Felipe Massa's crash with Sergio Perez on the last lap, Ferrari may have scored even fewer points, and the former double World champion believes the Maranello-based outfit need to achieve more.

He told reporters: "We were lucky with some DNFs at the end to pick up some points but sixth and 10th is too little for us. Jenson [Button] took the opportunity at the end with one of his banzai moves to gain two places.

"The car did improve a little bit compared with the last race but others did a bigger step than us.

"We need to work but the example of Red Bull is there now. In winter testing people wouldn't think they could win a race, especially in the first half of the season. But it shows how things can change in Formula 1."

Alonso currently lies third in the drivers' rankings, 61 points behind Nico Rosberg.
