Ferrari is considering signing Guanyu Zhou as a test and reserve driver for the 2025 Formula 1 season, the Chinese driver has confirmed.
Zhou, 25, is currently evaluating his next move as Audi-owned Sauber reshapes its lineup, with teammate Valtteri Bottas likely heading back to Mercedes in a reserve role. Zhou, meanwhile, has been linked with a similar opportunity at Ferrari, a team he has prior ties with through their driver academy.
"Negotiations with several teams are underway, and Ferrari is very interested in me," Zhou revealed. "We are currently examining what options are open to us. That should be decided soon.
"We'll see. There will be a lot happening in the coming weeks, and we will have to make a decision. I have a clear idea of what I want, but nothing is signed at the moment."
Should Zhou join Ferrari, he would bring valuable Chinese sponsorship to the team while filling the reserve driver spot left vacant by Robert Shwartzman, who is heading to IndyCar in 2025.
Ferrari's current reserve lineup saw Antonio Giovinazzi on duty in Las Vegas recently, but Oliver Bearman, set to race for Ferrari-powered Haas in 2025, is rumored to be the first choice to replace Charles Leclerc or Lewis Hamilton should a need arise.
Zhou reflected on his season with Sauber, expressing disappointment at missed opportunities due to a lack of upgrades on his car.
"It was a good weekend for me in Las Vegas," he said. "I finally had a competitive car again.
"But of course, this season has been disappointing overall. At a time when I should have shown what I can do, I didn't have the new parts on the car."
