Lotus Renault driver Romain Grosjean has insisted that mistakes in the past have made him a better driver.
Grosjean was blamed for several pile-ups during the 2012 season, and was banned for a race after taking out three cars at the Belgian Grand Prix.
That ban and the subsequent fine shook the Frenchman's confidence, but he is determined to return stronger.
"It was a harsh penalty, but we accepted it," Grosjean told the Sydney Morning Herald. "It took maybe a bit longer to come back from that than I expected.
"It was both and exciting and interesting season with some highs and lows. I understood a lot of things last year and I hope to be able to put them together this year.
"I'm ready for the season and looking forward to it. I'll do my best and try not to get into trouble."
The 2013 Formula 1 season begins in Australia on March 17.
