Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has announced that Marussia will not be taking part in next weekend's United States Grand Prix.

The team are understood to be struggling financially, while driver Jules Bianchi remains in hospital after sustaining serious head injuries during the Japanese Grand Prix.

It had been expected that American Alexander Rossi, who is the team's reserve driver this season, would step into Bianchi's race seat alongside Max Chilton for the US event.

Caterham will also be absent from Austin after being placed in administration this week.
