Mercedes's Lewis Hamilton fastest in second Bahrain Grand Prix practice

Lewis Hamilton tops both practice sessions for Mercedes ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday.

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has topped the timesheets in both practice sessions ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday.

The second session was carried out under the floodlights as Sunday's race will be at night for the first time in the 2014 campaign.

Hamilton, who won last weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix from pole position, lapped around six seconds slower than the time that he set in the first session.

Despite that, he was able to end the day quickest, while his teammate Nico Rosberg secured second, as he did in the first session.

Fernando Alonso clinched the third-fastest time in his Ferrari, while Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo finished the second practice fourth quickest.

Marussia's Max Chilton encountered a problem when his car stopped out on the track, which caused him to climb out of the vehicle and head for the barriers.

Last season's champion Sebastian Vettel secured the seventh-fastest time in his Red Bull car.
