Porsche remains in suspense over Sebastian Vettel's verdict on whether he will re-enter top-tier motor racing. At the time of writing, Vettel has yet to inform Porsche of his plans regarding a comeback to elite motorsport competition.
Toto Wolff, the head of Mercedes and currently seeking a F1 driver for 2025, openly acknowledged that the former four-time world champion is "flirting" with the idea of a return.
Despite this, Red Bull has dismissed any possibility of reuniting with the 36-year-old from Germany. Furthermore, the prominent German publication Bild suggests that Wolff does not see Vettel as a viable option to succeed Lewis Hamilton next season.
In a nutshell, "Sebastian Vettel has expressed his interest in a Formula 1 comeback," according to Oliver Reuter in the Kolner Express newspaper, "but nobody wants him."
"Despite free cockpits next season, the German cannot find a place."
Nevertheless, Vettel may find a spot within the Porsche family as he recently tested a Porsche hypercar prepared for Le Mans.
According to motorsport-total.com, Vettel has still not communicated with the German automaker regarding his future intentions.
"We have read in the media that he is in talks with several people, but we only know that he has not yet decided what he will do," stated Urs Kuratle, director of Porsche factory racing.
"We also do not know if he will appear with us again - or where or when. We will know in the coming weeks," he added.
Porsche has recently postponed an announcement about their complete driver lineup for their third hypercar entry in the renowned 24-hour race in 2024.
"We always look at what is best for the team," Kuratle mentioned. "We have many good drivers."
