Toto Wolff: 'Mercedes will not change approach'

Toto Wolff insists that Mercedes teammates Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg will "race each other respectfully" as the Formula 1 season draws to its conclusion.

Mercedes team co-boss Toto Wolff has maintained that his drivers will not change their approach having wrapped up the constructors' championship last weekend.

A ninth 1-2 of the season for the Brackley-based outfit was secured thanks to the impressive form of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg in Russia, who between them have now helped clock up a tally of 565 points.

However, the Mercedes teammates still have the drivers' title to compete for with just three races in the F1 calendar remaining.

"I don't think we are going to change something in our approach because we want them to race each other respectfully," Wolff is quoted as saying by PlanetF1.

"Of course 92 points means [Ricciardo] would need to win all three remaining races and Lewis not score eight points. Even though I am a pessimist, that would be a 'black swan, black swan, black swan' event.

"We saw in Russia [that] Nico missed the braking [point] on the dirty line and Lewis was very cold blooded, and it was good. So it will not change the approach. We don't want it to end in some kind of circumstance with events on the track."

The season resumes on November 9 with the United States Grand Prix.
