US PGA Championship 2025 guide: When is it? Where is it? How to watch, who is the favourite?

Sports Mole lists all of the past winners of the US PGA Championship, and provides the lowdown on all of the details ahead of 2025 edition.

The 107th edition of the US PGA Championship will get underway this week at Quail Hollow, as the second major champion of 2025 will be crowned, following Rory McIlroy's dramatic success at the Masters last month.

It was a fairytale finale as McIlroy completed the Career Grand Slam following the win, and the Northern Irishman also ended a decade-long wait for a major honour by claiming success at Augusta.

A 156-strong field will compete for this year's second major though, so McIlroy can expect even greater competition this week, as he seeks to continue his phenomenal year, that has also yielded a win at the Players.

Here, Sports Mole provides the lowdown on when and where the 2025 US PGA Championship will take place, as well as how to watch it, and who the favourites are to lift the prestigious Wanamaker Trophy.

When is the 2025 US PGA Championship?

The 2025 US PGA gets underway on Thursday May 15, and will run for four days, with the conclusion expected on Sunday May 18, barring any weather delays, or potential playoffs.

The 2025 US PGA Championship will take place at Quail Hollow, in Charlotte, North Carolina, marking the second time the course has been used to stage the tournament, after also doing so in 2017.

Where can you watch the 2025 US PGA Championship

For UK viewers, the 2025 US PGA Championship will be available to watch on Sky Sports Golf, who will have comprehensive coverage across all four days of the tournament.

Unsurprisingly, after his victory at Augusta National last month, completing the Career Grand Slam, Rory McIlroy is right at the top of the markets, currently joint-favourite with two-time major winner and world number one Scottie Scheffler, both at 9/2.

Bryson DeChambeau is not far behind as third-favourite, being priced at 8/1, with Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm and reigning champion Xander Schauffele also available at short odds, in and around 16/1 to 20/1.

Schauffele won his first major title at the US PGA last year, taking home the Wanamaker Trophy at Valhalla, shooting a tournament record 21-under-par, holding off challenges from the likes of DeChambeau, Viktor Hovland and Collin Morikawa.

How much prize money does the US PGA Championship winner get?

In 2024, a prize pot of $18.5m was shared out among those who made the cut for the weekend, with the winner Schauffele receiving 18%, which equalled a whopping $3.3m.

Has the US PGA been held at Quail Hollow before?

Quail Hollow has previously hosted the US PGA, back in 2017, when Thomas was the winner on that occasion, claiming the first of his two major successes to date.

In difficult conditions, only 12 players finished the week under-par, including Thomas, who won with a score of eight-under-par, coming from behind to snatch the title away from Kevin Kisner and Hideki Matsuyama, who both faded in the final round.

Who has won the US PGA Championship most often?

The legendary Jack Nicklaus has won the US PGA more often than any other player in the modern era, claiming five of 18 major titles in this tournament.

Nicklaus's success at the US PGA spanned almost two decades, with his first victory coming in Dallas in 1963, before claiming his fifth in 1980 at Oak Hill at the age of 40.

Tiger Woods is a close second with four wins, while Brooks Koepka has been victorious on three occasions, while Walter Hagen was the dominant force prior to the modern era, winning five times in the 1920s.
