Graeme McDowell withdraws from Deutsche Bank after birth of first child

Graeme McDowell will not play at this weekend's Deutsche Bank Championship after becoming a father for the first time.

Northern Irish golfer Graeme McDowell has pulled out of next weekend's Deutsche Bank Championship after becoming a father today.

The 35-year-old's wife Kristin had a planned cesarean birth earlier on Monday and McDowell tweeted to reveal that they had had a girl.

"Thanks so much for all the well wishes," he wrote. "Mum and baby girl are happy and healthy. Happiest moment of my life hands down. #daddy #love"

Former US Open champion McDowell finished in a tie for 38th place at The Barclay's yesterday and currently lies in 40th place in the FedEx Cup standings.

He wants to play in the third FedEx tournament, the BMW Championship, and should still make the grade as one of the top 70 in the FedEx standings.
