Rory McIlroy insists that he is approaching his best form ahead of the WGC Bridgestone Invitational.

Rory McIlroy has claimed that he is close to regaining his best form following a difficult period of tournaments on both sides of the Atlantic.

The former world number one has missed the cut in three of his last five tournaments in America and finished well behind the leaders at last month's British Open.

However, McIlroy is confident that he has made the necessary changes to his game ahead of the WGC Bridgestone Invitational this week.

The 23-year-old said: "Obviously it would be nice to tee it up every week and be in contention, but it's just not going to happen. It was happening there for a while, and it was nice, and my game just sort of went off for a few weeks.

"The last few weeks I've just been trying to get it back to where it was and feel like I'm definitely getting closer to that."

McIlroy will play with Ryo Ishikawa in the first round of the tournament in Ohio on Thursday.
