Phil Mickelson chooses holiday over World Match Play

Phil Mickelson will go on holiday instead of competing in the World Match Play event in February.

Phil Mickelson has revealed that he will miss the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship because he will be on a family holiday.

The American was expected to appear in the tournament beginning on February 22, but he has instead chosen to spend time with his wife and children.

Mickelson told ESPN: "I'm going to end up missing the Match Play this year as we're going to go on a family trip.

The two-time Masters champion has only ever reached the quarter-finals at the event, an achievement reached in 2004.

Luke Donald is the defending champion.
