Ryder Cup captain Jose Maria Olazabal has revealed that he hopes Paul Casey can return from injury in time to launch a late bid to be included in the European team.
Casey injured his shoulder in a snowboarding accident shortly before the beginning of this season and has suffered further setbacks in the last few weeks.
However, Olazabal is hopeful that the former world number three can return to form before the contest against USA in Chicago this September.
The Spaniard told Sky Sports News: "I feel really sorry for him. We all know how good he can play.
"All I am hoping is that he gets healthy again and shows form. I wish him the very best."
Casey is currently 27th in the points race for a Ryder Cup spot and will likely have to rely on a wild card if he is to compete in the competition for the first time since 2008.
