Thailand's Chinnarat Phadungsil leads by five shots after the first round of the Avantha Masters in New Delhi.

Chinnarat Phadungsil has opened up a five-shot lead at the top of the leaderboard after day one of the Avantha Masters.

The Thailand player recorded eight birdies on the back nine to record a score of 61 to move clear of the rest of the field.

Sweden's Magnus A Carlsson leads a group of five players on six-under-par, but they will need to improve to haul back Phadungsil during the second round.

South Africa's Thomas Aiken remained in contention on five-under-par, while British duo David Howell and Peter Whiteford were a shot further adrift on four-under-par.

Home favourite Jeev Milkha Singh finished his first round on three-under-par.
