Belgium's Thomas Pieters wins his first Rolex Series event by claiming the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

Thomas Pieters wins the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, holding his nerve during the closing stages to see out a one-shot victory.

Scott Jamieson was the overnight leader in the Middle East, but a poor start from the Scot allowed a number of players to stake their claim for the first Rolex Series event of the year.

However, while being joined at the top of the leaderboard throughout the final day, Pieters held firm, parring his final eight holes to seal the biggest win of his career.

Spain's Rafa Cabrera Bello and India's Shubhankar Sharma shared second position, with Viktor Hovland and Victor Dubuisson completing the top five.

English trio Tyrrell Hatton, Ian Poulter and James Morrison finished in a tie for sixth place, while Jamieson had to settle for a disappointing 10th spot.

Rory McIlroy put together an inspired run earlier in the day before the Northern Irishman eventually had to settle for an eight-way share of 12th position.
