Jason Day closing in on world number one spot after winning Barclays playoff

Australian's Jason Day pulls off a six-stroke victory in the US PGA Tour's FedEx Cup playoff chase.

Jason Day is closing in on the world number one spot after powering to victory at The Barclays on Monday morning.

The Australian carded a six-stroke win to seize the lead in the US PGA Tour's FedEx Cup playoff chase.

Day's scores of 68, 68, 63, and 62 took him to a tournament low of 19-under, well ahead of second-placed Henrik Stenson of Sweden, who carded 66 for 267.

Flawless putting was the key to the 27-year-old's success, with a combined 41 metres of sinking, including a 10-metre putt on the 15th hole.

Day is on course to become the first Aussie to win the Fedex Cup playoff series ahead of the final three rounds.
