Inspired bunker play from Nicolas Colsaerts has helped him and Paul Lawrie to turn all square against Matt Kuchar and Dustin Johnson.
The Americans took the lead when Colsaerts's birdie effort lipped out of the hole. The Belgian then missed from eight feet on the 4th green, putting the home side firmly in control.
The European duo made pars at the sixth, which was good enough to claw a hole back from their opponents before Colsaerts's wonderful shot from the sand landed inches from the cup.
He tapped in for the draw, leaving Europe level heading onto the back nine.
