Keegan Bradley, Hunter Mahan, Webb Simpson named USA Ryder Cup wildcards

USA captain Tom Watson names Keegan Bradley, Hunter Mahan and Webb Simpson as his three wildcard picks for the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles later this month.

Keegan Bradley, Hunter Mahan and Webb Simpson have been confirmed as USA captain Tom Watson's three wildcards for the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles this month.

They join the nine automatic qualifiers, Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, Jim Furyk, Jimmy Walker, Phil Mickelson, Matt Kuchar, Jordan Speith, Patrick Reed and Zach Johnson for the tournament from September 26 to September 28.

Watson, who previously captained the Americans to Ryder Cup victory in 1993, was restricted when he completed his 12-man team for the biennial event on Tuesday morning, having been hit by withdrawals.

Tiger Woods and Dustin Johnson have made themselves unavailable for selection due to a lack of fitness and unspecified personal problems respectively, while injury also sidelines Major winner Jason Dufner.

Former US Open champion Simpson was preferred to the likes of Brandt Snedeker, Deutsche Bank Championship winner Chris Kirk and Bill Haas, and will face off against Europe for the second time.

Both Simpson and Bradley were rookies when the US surrendered a 10-4 lead to lose to Europe at Medinah two years ago, where the latter won all three of his matches when paired alongside Mickelson.

Mahan missed the event in Chicago, but has previous experience in the Ryder Cup from his outing at Celtic Manor in 2010, and has a good matchplay reputation having won at Accenture in 2012.

European skipper Paul McGinley named Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood and Stephen Gallacher as his wildcards on Monday.
