Colin Montgomerie believes that Ian Poulter could become a target of the American crowd at the 39th Ryder Cup this weekend.
The bi-annual Europe vs. USA team event begins at the Medinah Country Club in Chicago on Friday, with Poulter a member of Jose Maria Olazabal's visiting dozen.
The Englishman is known for his charisma and competitiveness on the course, particularly during the Ryder Cup, an event in which he has starred since debuting in 2004.
Montgomerie has said that Poulter's enthusiastic pro-Europe antics could stir up the home support, but has claimed that the 36-year-old is capable of coping with the attention.
"He opens himself up for being more of a target than most because of his attitude and because of the pumping of the air and all that," the Scot said.
"If he is, there's one person that can handle it and that's Ian Poulter, so I'm not worried about that for him personally."
Poulter was part of the victorious 2010 team captained by Montgomerie at Celtic Manor.
