Jon Doig hails "humble" Euan Burton

Team Scotland chef de mission Jon Doig hails the team's flag bearer Euan Burton.

Team Scotland chef de mission Jon Doig has hailed Euan Burton after the 35-year-old was appointed as his team's official flag bearer for the Commonwealth Games.

Burton, 35, who was awarded the accolade on Monday, will lead Team Scotland into Celtic Park at the opening ceremony on Wednesday.

"You can look at all the sporting aspects and everything else, but Euan is a tremendous person and has very quiet leadership qualities," Doig told Sports Mole.

"He is exactly the type of person that deserves to go into the stadium. The athletes have the confidence and he has the confidence.

"Judo is not a high-profile sport, but it is well-known within the sporting structure. The judo competitors are very highly-respected and it is a great honour for Euan and I know he is very humble."

Burton was selected by his teammates.
