Gary Lineker "disappointed" with Lionel Messi World Cup displays

Gary Lineker admits that he has been "disappointed" with the impact of Lionel Messi during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Lionel Messi has "disappointed" Gary Lineker during the 2014 World Cup, the former England striker has said.

Barcelona's Messi has scored four goals during this summer's World Cup and has reached the final with Argentina, but Lineker has not been impressed.

"I am the Argentina captain's biggest fan and he is the most wonderfully gifted player since Diego Maradona but, here in Brazil, I have been disappointed with what I have seen," Lineker wrote on BBC Sport.

Messi's only touch in the opposition's area of the match against Netherlands was during the penalty shootout.

Lineker has been presenting the BBC's coverage of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
