Dennis Bergkamp "honoured" by statue annoucement

Dennis Bergkamp declares that he is "honoured" to hear the news that Arsenal will unveil a statue of him outside the Emirates later this year.

Former Arsenal forward Dennis Bergkamp has declared that he is "honoured" to hear that the club will soon unveil a statue of him outside the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal confirmed earlier today that the Dutch striker will join club legends Thierry Henry, Tony Adams and Herbert Chapman in receiving a permanent reminder of his achievements in North London outside the stadium.

Currently an assistant coach at Ajax, Bergkamp insisted that he will do everything he can to be at the unveiling, which is expected to take place before the start of next season.

He told the club's official website: "First of all, I am honoured that this is going to happen. It makes me very proud. Everyone knows that I love Arsenal and that I had a fantastic time at the club.

"For me and my family it was an important period in our lives. Next to that the people were great, the team was amazing and we had a lot of success over the years.

"I will do everything I can to be there when it will be unveiled. It will definitely be a special moment for me which I don't want to miss."

Bergkamp is revered by Gunners fans after winning three Premier League titles and four FA Cups during an 11-year spell at the club.
