Barcelona to pay tribute to victims of Catalonia terror attacks

Barcelona announce a number of tributes to victims of the recent terror attacks in Catalonia ahead of their first La Liga fixture this weekend against Real Betis.

Barcelona have announced a number of tributes to victims of the recent terror attacks in Catalonia ahead of their first La Liga fixture this weekend.

Fourteen people died and more than 100 were hurt as a result of Thursday's attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils.

Barca confirmed in a statement on their website: "The first team will wear a special shirt with 'Barcelona' on the back where their names are usually displayed in Sunday's La Liga opener against Real Betis.

"The club received special authorisation for this move from the [Royal Spanish Football Federation], and La Liga also gave permission to display the hashtag #TotsSomBarcelona on the chest of the shirt.

"Aside from these acts to pay tribute, there will be a minute's silence before kickoff to commemorate all the victims and offer support to their friends and relatives, and all the citizens and visitors to the city.

"In addition, all the FC Barcelona players in the teams across the various sports and age divisions will wear a black armband in all the games taking place over the weekend."

The French and German leagues will also hold a minute's silence before all games this weekend.
