PSG star Edinson Cavani booked after paying tribute to Chapecoense victims

Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani is controversially booked for paying tribute to the victims of the Chapecoense air disaster.

Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani was booked after paying tribute to the victims of the Chapecoense air crash.

The Uruguay international pulled off his shirt to display a message of support to the Brazilian club after scoring a penalty in PSG's 2-0 victory over Angers on Wednesday evening.

Cavani's T-shirt had Chapecoense's club logo drawn on it with the word 'Fuerza', meaning 'strength', written below it.

The Brazilian club lost 19 players, as well as manager Caio Junior and the coaching staff when their plane plunged into a mountainside near Medellin, Colombia on Monday night.

The team were on their way to compete in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final when the aircraft reportedly ran out of fuel.

Cavani's gesture controversially resulted in a yellow card from referee Frank Schneider, who was following FIFA's rules which prohibit players from removing shirts during celebrations.

The penalty also marked the striker's 100th goal for PSG.
