Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata has been fined £200 for speeding this afternoon, with a judge joking that he should serve a six-month prison sentence.
Mata was clocked driving his Aston Martin at 63mph in a 50mph zone last December in Esher.
The Spanish playmaker was not present for the verdict at Staines' Magistrates Court today, with the fine handed out in his absence.
After ordering Mata to pay the fine within 14 days, the judge reportedly joked that he should serve "six months in prison from the beginning of the football season", according to The Mirror.
The 25-year-old must also pay £85 court costs and a £60 victim surcharge, with three points added to his driving licence.
