Russell Brand to sue 'The Sun', give money to Hillsborough justice campaign

Comedian Russell Brand threatens to sue The Sun and donate the money to the Hillsborough justice campaign.

Comedian and actor Russell Brand has revealed plans to sue newspaper The Sun and give a sum to the Hillsborough justice campaign should he win the case.

The 39-year-old, who is a West Ham United fan, was recently labelled a "hypocrite" by the tabloid paper after claiming that he pays a substantial fee in rent to live in Central London.

The Rupert Murdoch-owned newspaper questioned the comedian after he was seen protesting outside Downing Street in support of tenants at the New Era Estate, who have concerns that their rent could be increased following a takeover by a property company in the United States.

In response to the front-page story, Brand has threatened to sue the newspaper and donate some of the cash to the 'JFT96' campaign for the victims of the Hillsborough disaster, which claimed the lives of 96 Liverpool supporters back in 1989.

Brand wrote on Twitter: "Hey @TheSunNewspaper, @rupertmurdoch I'm gonna sue you and give the money to #NewEraEstate and JFT96."

Many people on Merseyside regularly boycott The Sun due to the portrayal the newspaper gave to Liverpool fans immediately after the tragedy back in the 1980s.
