Frank Lampard admits he would "love" for a gay player to come out

Frank Lampard is hopeful that gay footballers will feel comfortable coming out, and believes that attitudes towards homosexuality are changing in the game.

Frank Lampard is hopeful that it won't be too long until gay footballers feel comfortable to come out.

Out of 5,000 professional footballers in this country, not one of them is openly gay, and former Aston Villa star Thomas Hitzlsperger decided to be open about his sexuality only once he had retired.

"I have to say the game is changing a lot, there are a lot of campaigns and I feel it in the dressing rooms," Lampard said during an appearance on Channel 4's Alan Carr: Chatty Man.

"I would love it if someone came out and everyone treated it with respect. This silly thing that we are macho and we play football is very old hat."

Meanwhile, Lampard is preparing to move to MLS side New York City FC when his loan deal with Manchester City expires in the summer.
